Penny 's Story Book
"Hello I'm Penny and I'm ten. Come and meet my family - my Mum, Danny our dog, my Dad and my young brother Skip, and this is my big brother Ben, he's twelve."

One morning as Dad was getting our car out of the garage, to go to work, I saw his briefcase still in the Kitchen. Dad ALWAYS forgets things! I had to run out after him. "Wait Dad!" I shouted. "Oh thanks Penny" smiled Dad. We all waved goodbye as Dad drove off to work! Mum laughed and said Dad would forget his head if it wasn't fixed on.

Ben and I wanted to play with Danny our dog, but we couldn't find him. "Perhaps he's gone to the stables, " I suggested. We ran there, to search for him.

We called and whistled for Danny, but he didn't come. Ben climbed up into the hayloft, to get a good view of everything. Cleo the cat was up there, but Danny wasn't. Wen Ben wasn't listening, I whispered to the owl. "Have YOU seen Danny?" "Whoo?" asked the owl. While I was feeding Goldie our horse and Sandy my pony, Ben threw some hay down at me! "Oh Penny!" giggled Ben, "You look like a scarecrow."

So I chased him outside! There were lots of animals out there - our pig and her piglets, the cow, the chickens - but no Danny. Then Mum came up in the cart. "I have to go shopping before lunch," she called to us. "Will you two take care of Skip for me?"

So Ben and I took Skip with us to our treehouse. Ben said he couldn't see Danny anywhere, even from our rooftop lookout. "Maybe Danny's taken himself for a walk," I decided. He does sometimes. Skip and I played on the swing until Mum came back. "Lunchtime!" said Mum. "Don't worry, Danny will come back when he's hungry."

But long after lunch was over, Danny STILL hadn't come back. "Let's search for him again," I said, feeling worried now. The ducks and geese hadn't seen Danny all day. Where COULD he be? Then we heard Mum, calling us for a swim in the pool. Ben ran to the ladder, but I used our secret slide, and I beat him down!

We hadn't thought of looking by the pool for Danny! So we raced each other there. "I'll look under the table and chairs!" cried Ben. But trust him - he bumped into me and SPLASH! into the pool I went! "Oh Penny!" laughed Mum. "Now you can tell us if Danny's in there!" giggled Ben. I was sopping wet so I had to go and get changed. Then we heard a car...

It was Dad! "I've brought home a stowaway!" he chuckled. "Guess who jumped into my car this morning when I wasn't looking?" "DANNY!" we shouted. "You've been to work with Dad!" Danny was so excited to be home, and so hot after his ride in the car, he leapt right off the bridge into the water to cool down. The swans were pretty cross with him!

Ben and I went back to our bedroom while Mum was getting tea ready. I thumped Ben with my pillow for knocking me into the pool - well, he deserved it, didn't he! We had a brilliant pillow fight. Skip shouted with joy as the feathers fell like snow around him. Danny thought it was great fun. I won of course - though Ben says HE did. Brothers! We had only just cleared up the mess when Mum called "Tea is ready."

After tea we all sat down in the living room. "I wonder if Danny enjoyed his day at work?" smiled Mum. "Well, I'M NOT taking him again!" said Dad. "If I forget to look and see if he's jumped into my car tomorrow, you must all remind me!" I was so pleased to have Danny safely home again, that I shared my chocolate with him. He loves chocolate!

Well, from now on I will take care that Danny doesn't go to work with Dad. For one thing, I want him to stay here and play with me!
